silly question , have you checked the turbo pipes are fitted correctly, and have no cracks/splits.
secondly, has the fuel pump timing slipped? as far as i know its two or three nuts and it twists like an old distributor. only mine had to be set up when i had a new engine. only a thought....

Have you tried it with the inlet hose taken off right at the end of the inlet manifold where the EGR pipe joins it?
So that air is drawn directly into the inlet manifold?
Also have you cleaned all the EGR crud out of the manifold?
If you've done all that it must either be the injectors or the injection pump supplying too much fuel.

If I do get rid of the Freda, I'll be driving straight down to A1 Auctions in Southampton to buy another!!
The reason I have taken the inlet manifold elbow off was to ensure there is nothing to stop the air from getting in!! The engine should be running as a non-turbo as the turbo is totally disconnected from the air intake. But as the turbo is still connected to the chimney, I can feel the blow from it and it seems fine using my 'finger-boost gauge'. My 'finger-tacho' leaves a bit to be desired as I lost a bit of skin when I poked it in the end of the turbo to see if it was spinning.
I'm looking for someone to recollect a little tip that will allow me to disconnect a doofer on the injector pump or something, to make my lovely bus good again!!!

As far as I can see, the inlet manifold is a bit oily but nothing to worry about. I've played with engines a lot worse and they never complained!!

This fuel pump overfuel pipe on ok?......although I doubt it would cause the drastic power loos you're having

It lets the injector pump know when the turbo is blowing, so that the pump can increase fuelling, so that the engine can produce more power.
How have you checked this - have you taken the injectors out or just popped the return tube off or what.is plenty of fuel at the injectors.

With the engine ticking over, I slackened the injector unions off one at a time. There was enough pressure at each injector to fill my eyes. Four times......
That's not to say there is enough flow at higher revs, which is when I have the problem, but usually when a pump pops, the tickover is the first thing to suffer!

This is how mine was, ticked over fine but virtually petered out when I revved up, chucking loads of smoke out, and it was all down to the small filter in the pump, if it's not that, I'm afraid I can't help, although it still seems to be a fuel problem to me.

I think that is what you need to check next.

I'm going to put it all back together and see what happens. It may have fixed itself!!

Is there any way the jets could be partically blocked? Is it possible that some kind of deposit has settled on things right throughout the system due perhaps to high veg_oil mix (what type of oil if so?) and vehicle left standing in cold weather. Apologies if this has been covered - cant read previous posts while I'm typing this! What could dissolve/flush/remove this if so? Can't think of anything else useful to suggest

I used some diesel additive that cost £9.99, and put about half of it in the tank as mine had been standing for a long while in the cold weather, whatever I did certainly did the trick. Mind you I was almost tearing my hair out before it was completely cured. I cleaned the pump filter loads of times.

With well over 100 BAR pressure produced by a diesel pump (modern TDIs produce 1600 BAR
) there's little chance of any foreign body lasting in there - unless it's lodged in the tiny filter.
