Air Con not working
My Air Con has stopped working. It is the early manual type. The system was professionally refilled last year. The A/C light comes on but there is no drop in engine speed on idle that there prevoisly used to be. Is this the dreaded mega bucks compressor? I've checked all the fuses, is there anything I've missed?
Help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Air Con not working
if you go to kwik fit, they will check the system,if it cant be refilled and made to work, there is no charge, and they should tell you what is wrong with it for no cost,if it can be refilled it will be about £45,well it was last year.
you may need to tell them how much gas and oil it needs,as i dont think the bongo comes up on their system.

Re: Air Con not working
Before getting too technical with the aircon have you checked whether the fan works at all/some/no spedds.
Mine only works on 4 at the mo because the unit situated under the bonnet has blown (again). Think its called the Fan Speed Resistor Unit or summat.
This fails regularly due to a number of factors including the fan itself needing a service so it runs free and/or the unit getting wet due to the drainhole under the centre of the windscreen getting blocked and water dripping onto the electrics.
Lots of info on the techie Forum
good luck

Thanks for the help. are you talking about the heater fan or the engine cooling fan. My heater fan is working fine.

Re: Air Con not working
Presume you don't have a snapped belt to the compressor? Aircon only works when heater is on position 1 or more. As implied in Harrys post, if the seized fan motor symdrome has blown the resistor, there could be consequences for aircon function.
Keep us posted. Sounds interesting. Good luck.

Re: Air Con not working
Tis the aircon/heater fan which is in the big drum thing under the bonnet.
make sure the engine isn't running
Unclip the big funnelly thing above the radiator and feel into the hole revealed by removing this funnel.
You should be able to rotate the fan with one finger.
The switch nubered 1 to 4 on the aircon/heater control will switch the fan on and off and to different speeds with just the ignition on but better with the engine running....you'll feel the blast through the vents.
If it fails to work at all or only at certain speeds then the Fan resistor Unit is probably at fault.
There are 6? soldered tabs on the control unit and sometimes the solder gives way and the connections pop.
Also worth noting is that to use the rear aircon it needs to be switched on via a seperate switch near the steering wheel as well as in the back.
cheers

Re: Air Con not working
The Heater fan works in all 4 positions and the rear heater works as well. Have found 2 further fans, 1 just behind the radiator and 2nd visible from the engine compartment situated infront the engine block. Also air con compressor belt is ok. So is my problem the compressor?

you should have 2 fans on the back of the radiator, and the fan in the front of the engine bay is the scavenger fan.
if your aircon isnt working, ie the engine changes revs when switched on then its not working, if you have checked the fuses (in the drivers footwell, middle row, red 10 amp fuse on the right hand side end fuse) then check to make sure that theres power getting to the compressor, if there is then it looks like the compressor is faulty/caput

Re: Air Con not working
My air con's not right just now, and has only ever worked on numbers 2 and 4. The fans themselves are ok and work on all numbers. It's not a thing thats used much up here,
but only went to try it yesterday as it was the warmest day so far this year? and theres no difference in air temperature.
I'm hoping it's just a re-gas job.
