Steering Rack

Post by lloydie1813 » Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:22 am

Hi,

We have a split seal on the steering rack of our 96 Ford Freda which means constantly topping up the power steering fluid. Our local garage reckons we will have to replace the steering rack as it is easier than replacing the seal (although he admits he has done neither of these jobs previously). Is this the case or can we just replace the seal. Has anyone any information on tackling either of these jobs.

Many Thanks
Veg_Ian

It all depends on whether you can get the part in question. There is a seal replacement kit which if I read correctly provides 5 replacement seals. Are any of these the one:

Bristol based Western Power Steering (0117-960-2906) do new and reconditioned steering racks for Bongos. They may even do the seal packs.

Many thanks for the info, I will try both firms & see what will be the easiest way of getting the problem sorted.

Cheers
