Slipping Belts

Post by GICarey » Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:21 am

Hi all,

When I had the seats up yesterday to take piccies, I also (i think) identified the source of my high pitched squealing, which can be heard from the cab. Alternator Belts. As demonstrated in this video which I took at the time!

Battery was reading at 13.2v so it's not getting discharged, just a small slip, but I'll see about tightening it up when working through my list of things on Friday (hurrah for a days holiday!).

I'm assuming there's a fact-sheet or set of posts from members on here. Will have a search later today :) Last time I had to do this was on my 2CV about 10 years ago, and I got rather good at that (it ate belts, but at £5 each, i couldn't be bothered to work out why!) got it down to changing in 2 mins with just a 10mm spanner! (one of about only 4 tools required to work on a 2CV most of the time!).

Cheers,

G.

OK,

so, from these posts:

I think, basically, undo locking nut, on the side of the bracket, possibly also the one underneath(?), tighten the long bolt to add tension to the belts, and see if that stops the squealing?

But first, i'll pop the aircon on, see if that shushes it up, and also see how much play there is in the belts as they are?

Cheers!
