should the expansion tank be hot?

Post by Bongo.Baz.tard » Fri Apr 11, 2008 7:26 pm

Hi guys ,
As you may already know ive already put a new head and rad in my 2.5d n reg aft.
So i am constantly checking levels etc.
But I RECENTLY noticed that the expansion tank is hot to the touch. Not boiling .
Is this normal or am i paranoid android. [-o<

Yes - it's not actually an expansion tank and has water circulating through it.

thanks franco , just didnt like to take any chances.
Read through the overheating debate (ww3) but couldn't seem to get a definate answer to my question.
Apart from that everything seems to be okay with my new head.
Thanks for your quick response.

As franco says it's a coolant reservoir, not an expansion tank and has (or should have) water circulating through it all the time.

If it doesn't warm up you have a circulation/air lock problem so it is definitely a good thing it is getting hot.
