Flashing Hold & low power.

Hello, sorry if this has already been covered, but I couldn't find it if it has.
Today I needed to get to the NEC in the Midlands, I set off up the M20 with no problems, I had to pick up a friend in Orpington (about 20 miles of M-Way driving) when I stopped at Orpington the Hold light was flashing, but other than that no problems.
When I got on the M25 I noticed that I had low power and she was only doing 50 -60 but ther revs were over 3000!! this lasted all the way up to Oxford services where I stopped for 15 mins. When I got back in, the hold was still flashing, but I was back to normal driving?? Then after a full day at the NEC, started her back up no flashing hold and all back to normal.
Has anyone else had this, is it a sign of a more serious problem or just a querk?? The most worrying part is that it has cost £60 in diesel from Aylesford to Brum and I am planning a trip to Durness in a few weeks, that could be a VERY EXPENSIVE journey!! Others will no doubt be along with better advice but I can vaguely recall reading three things on here (i.e. take the stuff below as a rough guide, not 100% correct).

1) There is a sequence to the flashing (short flashes, long flashes I think) that is a coded indicator of what the problem might be. Some of these codes have been mentioned on here though I don't know where they are obtained from

2) There is a possibility it may be linked to connections to the (I think) speedo as the box takes a signal from that in order to know when to change gear. A bad connection could just be causing hte upset.

3) I think solenoids for the gearbox have been mentioned in the past as a source of problems. Not ruinously expensive to get fixed by an autobox specialist and the 'flashing code' may give a clue as to whether this is the problem.

First and foremost, use the above and other keywords to see what old advice you can find on here.

I know how you feel, my new Bongo is doing something similar. There are lots of threads on this and quite a few apparant causes, some electrical some more serious. Try putting "flashing hold light" into the search facility or better still look at the fact sheets in the members area. The high revs are because it's gone into limp home mode which I believe selects one of the lower gears. Good luck. Let us know what it turns out to be.

As above Bonsi,the flashing hold light does indeed have a sequence, translating into a fault code...It could be something as simple as a speedo chip connection needing tightening up at the clocks, or something more serious.

Type in flashing AND hold, or some combinations of that in the "search" facility to read up on others troubles of a similar nature....

Thanks for your replys just found the stuff on the fact sheet, now very worried, could set me back a few bob I am hoping that it is the screw thingy, but I suppose I should get her booked in at the quacks tomorrow!!
If it turns out to be a problem not listed I will up date... Kind regards ...Simon

Check the connections on the wiring loom to the temp wender on the cylinder head - it's the one with 2 wires about 2/3 from the front under the driver's seat. I found a bad connection here on a Bongo and it gave your symptoms.............
