temperature sensor(heater)

Post by steady1946 » Thu Apr 17, 2008 4:34 pm

I have just bought a new sensor and wanted to fit it myself. When I eventually got to undo the old one(bl***y awkward),water started to seep out.I looked in the workshop manual and it doesn't say to drain the rad.Does that mean I have to drain the system just to change the little sensor.Anyone any ideas?

I would get everything to hand......unscrew the old one....quickly screw in the new one...you should lose very little coolant and no air should get in... then just top up the expension tank...

Hi Steady,

You say the temperature sensor(heater) - which one is that?
a) the single wire sensor that feeds the dash gauge (I think not as its not got anything to do with heaters!)
b) the two wire sensor that feeds the ECU - a little above the starter motor (but this doesn't have anything to do with the heaters either?)
or
c) do you have climate control and theres another sensor for that?

A little confused :?

If its the ECU sensor I'd be interested in the reasons for the replacement - symptoms etc.

regards Grahame

I assume it is the sensor/sender for the temp gauge. No mention of heaters
