radio and odometer dead!!

Post by trekie » Tue Apr 15, 2008 1:53 pm

hi y'all,
my radio has been dead for a week or so and now ive realised that my odometer is also not registering the milage ive been doing. the speedo is showing my speed. i have to admit that the wiring is a bit of a mess as the last owner had wired in a lot of extras and has cut into nearly every cable :!: even the radio, he by-passed the loom connector and wired directly with cable connectors. its a right mess #-o #-o
can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve the problem :?:

cheers

Funny you should say that, my odometer is dead too but speedo fine. I'm sure it's illegal to drive with a dead one. Can anyone help us? eg. how to remove the dash without it all going bongo up?

I don't think it's illegal to drive without an odometer. If I remember correctly the (new) MINIs used to have an odometer as an option, and I know plenty of older (80s) cars don't have them (Suzuki SJ, for example). But I don't know if I'm wrong so please correct me!

Have you tried some wd40 on the pin switches on the pillar of the front doors for the courtesy light Alex? Give them a good "working out" by hand...

hi ste,
ive "played" with the pin switches and theyre not sticking, i think that theres just no power going to them. whoever owned the van previously must have re-directed the power to other things, the light works internally when i switch it on and off but does not work at the pin switches when the door opens. strange really #-o #-o
