I just took my new shape Bongo on its first long trip - skiing, down on the Italian border. It worked perfectly until getting off the ferry on the way back. Half way up the hill out of Dover the ignition coil light started flashing, the manual indicates that this is a scavenger warning light. The fan was not operating (broken?) but after a stop with the engine cover lifted the fault disappeared. It resurfaced on the M4 about 2 hours later and another halt was required. Has something just broken or does anyone have any experience with this?
Cheers

I know Bongos are versatile - but - SKIING?
Perhaps it was on the wrong piste and that is why it is now showing a fault.
Seriously though, the scavenger fan comes on to cool the engine bay.
The control is done by a temperature sensor just by the handbrake mounting.
Sometimes they suffer from poor connections, or it might be faulty and not bringing the fan into operation.
You are unlikely to hear the fan when the engine is running.
I guess that the engine overheats and a different sensor tells the system to flash that light.
There are posts on here somewhere about how to test the scavenger fan/sensor system.

Re: Scavenger Fan - Flashing Warning Light
The other week I disconnected the sensor by the handbrake which switches the scavenger fan on. This resulted in the glowplug light flashing. I think this must be what you are referring to by 'ignition coil light', unless you have a petrol rather than diesel engine.
Re: Scavenger Fan - Flashing Warning Light
yup - spot on, I meant glow plug light!
Re: Scavenger Fan - Flashing Warning Light
Don't know if you got it sorted or not.... but something definitely worth checking out is a loose earthing plate on the engine just below the glow plug rail. Lift the driver's seat and looking slightly to the left of the top of the engine is an earthing plate with a number of wires attached - check it isn't loose - mine was and after tightening it up the problem disappeared. Worth a try. I'm not sure if your new shape will have the plate in the same place though.
