Temp guage dives to cold ?
Noticed recently that when I hit about 2000 revs, accellerating away from lights etc, the temp needle plants itself into cold... is this normal ?

Sorry Mayk19 this is NOT normal.
I suggest offering some more details - like what is the gauge indicating normally, how long does it stay down.
I'm sure some ideas will be along soon.

Normal temp sits just below half way... no issues at all. Coolant level is good.
It will stay at cold just whilst your accellerating, when you hit a steady speed the guage goes back to normal really quickly.

The temperature gauge is below the drivers seat and if I remember correctly its the only wire obviously going into the top of the engine - so it's easy to spot. The first thing I'd do is see if the connection between the gauge and the instrument wire is a little loose.

Hi
Most cars have a voltage stailiser (usually on the back of the dash)....sounds like problems I had with a car some years ago, when the cooling seemed to be all over the place according to the gauge....checked and replaced lots of bits, and found this stabiliser thingy was at fault....5 mins work.
If your car is reading normal most of the time, it sounds more like electrical problems....feel the hoses after a run, and put your mind at rest

Too true, Dave...my father was convinced that it was the head gasket at fault....new gasket, new radiator, checked the thermostat, just about to "do" the water pump, when.....Hocus Pocus, it was the voltage stabiliser....five minutes work PLUS....radiator and head fitting....the whole episode....er....how many hours and FIVE B****Y MINUTES
