Whats the thoughts on leaving off the engine shield to aid cooling,or do you reckon the shield helps direct the wind over the engine?.What about fitting a manually controlled Kenlowe type fan to extract the hot air while in traffic,or fitting a over-ride switch to the one fitted as standard?.

It's there for a number of reasons and one of them is to duct air past the engine instead of just having a big turbulent bubble of hot air around it.
There is a hulking great fan at the front of the engine bay that cuts in if the engine gets too hot.

Much quieter with it on too, I ran with it off for a week or so, so many noises from the wrong places, didn't like it. much prefer it on.

If you want to experiment, run two manometers with the reference tubes at each end of the shield. The front one should be posative and rear negative if it works. let us know.

Why is the sump important when the exhaust side of the head is where the heat is?

I'm not saying get rid of the savanger fan, and I know the engine has an oil cooler already. So would this extra air flow, although not necessary, help to cool the oil, like an exposed sump does on other vehicles? (ones I've owned anyway) Which will also help the engine?

I reckon the shield is there to duct airflow past the engine smoothly, without it air is likely to swirl about in the engine bay and there could actually be less cooling effect.

Ok forget wind speed assume the air is static, as the air enters an inverted u with a reasonably flat plate under it, as the air enters it as the car moves forward the air speed slows, picks up heat. Then the air is sucked out by the lower air pressure behind the plate. Got it?

I thought the primary reason for the cover was for protection from the odd flying object kicked up by the wheels, or as a shield from lots of water being deluged onto the hot engine from water when in wet conditions? Ya know you don't want any water making it's way into the air filter!
