transmission in safe mode

Post by nfn » Wed Apr 02, 2008 5:22 pm

My bongo's transmission went into safe mode while overtaking a lorry on the A11 today. The hold light is flashing regularly -- no obvious code, just on and off, and it didn't clear by turning the key off and then on again more than 5 times. One of the fact sheets says that it is probably the speed sensor. I need to find an automatic transmission specialist not too far from Attleborough, Norfolk -- does anyone have any experience with transmission repair places in Norfolk? or have any insights into how I can deal with the problem? I don't want to thrash my poor old bongo driving around in 3rd gear...

There's this place http://www.auto-tran-specialists.co.uk/ ... 0360000050 35 miles away, who do grey imports.
Also this one in Norwich http://www.transrep.fsnet.co.uk/ - we used to send repairs to this bloke when I worked in the motor trade.

Thanks francophile, I will probably try the place in Norwich. I went back out to the bongo about 45 minutes after parking it, and it no longer is in safe mode. Went for a drive and everything was normal. This really does seem to me like the speed sensor issue discussed in the fault code factsheet. Bongofury and its members are really amazing.

to try to clear the fault turn the car off and park it up for a couple of hours
It should reset itself

then try it again driving normaly and see if it happens again, it may just be a glitch.

or you can try and use the diagnostic box by the passenger foot well, fact sheet in members area, to get the fault code

ok you beat me to it with the clearing the fault :D
