HI guys,

Nah I don't have the oil in plug holes problem that I know of. However I can see that happening if there is a leak on the rocker cover, those holes are very deep.

I'd clean it all up like others have said and see what happens. I'd also consider an engine flush and oil change if it hasn't been done in a while and use a good quality 10/30 oil and filter.

Sounds daft but don't rule out a petrol injector, had a loan car a few weeks back that made a terrible tappety din for about 2 mins when it first started up, but the garage owner warned me about it. If he hadn't told me it was an injector I'd have sworn it was a knackered tappet.

If anyone needs new plug leads I found a place that does Bongo ones for under £50 for the complete set, Mazda can get them too but they are over £150 all in, ouch !!

On a very cold day I get a very slight tappety noise but it's only very slight and lasts for 1 min max only when you are pulling off, doesn't do it when ticking over. The Wynes stuff did make a difference, put some in thurday night, done about 500 miles and it has made a difference but again the noise was so slight that it's splitting hairs.

So how many V6 bongos are out there I wonder, and what if any other things do people find wrong or strange about them?

My scavenger fans come on when I start up and when I stop, no matter how hot the engine is, they turn off after about 10 seconds but it makes me wonder why when it's cold.

You are correct about injector "tap" on some petrols apole, the din they make can be quite alarming...

I had a similar scenario with the last "ST" model focus i had, (2.0 Duratec)and previously to that with my v6 mondeo (Duratec again) The problem seemed worse when i used the dealers suggested oil, i switched oils from "ford's own" to Havoline semi synthetic, which helped matters considerably...Cheaper too!

I have most of the requirements to be in the club. Tapping for 2 minutes on start up, fan coming on as pull away and thinking its stalled sometimes as its so quite.

Unfortunately I haven't got to 100mph but cruised at 90mph back from Southern Spain to Dieppe. I think 60mph 2000 revs 80mph 3000 revs and maybe 3500 revs for 90.

You can't leave us out unless you breakaway and have a 4 person V6 Bongofury forum.

Having kept an eye at Southampton auctions over the winter there will be a lot more getting on the roads this year. Won't we get fed up of talking about tapping noises, quite engines, fans starting and expensive timing belts that are 3' circumference?

My fan comes on as well but I would say temp gauge is normal, might become an issue in summer?
I think the oil is getting in to the spark plugs because of the rocker gasket, nipped up the nuts and going to take it for a spin to see if its stopped it.

The sensor for the fan is just behind the hand brake ( well it was on my diesel Freda) pull off the connector and over ride the switch by bridging it with a bit of wire the fan should then come on
