As you have a twin battery set up you have a perfectly good earth so no need to run a new one (as long as it reaches). Its worth using a heavy earth anyway so if you ever need to jump start using your leisure battery then only one jump lead needed - also if you have just insualted and cable tied the old positive terminal out of the way you could always reconnect it in an emergency if your main battery failed.stanredski wrote:Dave, hi,daveblueozzie wrote:As far as i know (which isn't much) take the battery leads from the second battery ,the one on the RIGHT as you stand in front of the bongo. and just make them safe and tuck them away out of harms way, replace with LB and use willintons split relay, then go onto corblimeys posts and find out how to run your blinds/radio/internal lights/ciggy sockets from your newly installed LB. without the worry of draining your main battery for starting.
can I not use the earth from the passenger side battery or do I need to run a new one.
Winter twin battery bongo, I need to remove one battery

I've been advised there was an indecent picture on this posting. Something serious has happened here. I posted a picture of David Attenborough, nothing indecent (which I would never do). I previewed the posting before I sent it so am confident that is what the picture was. I've asked the moderator to report this to Ian as I think we all need an explanation as to what could have happened (hacker? Is that possible?).mikeonb4c wrote:Not, please, to be confused with 10 Willinton Placedandywarhol wrote:........and it isn't even his name - it's the street where he staysMountainGoat wrote:Poor Willinton, everybody seems to be getting his name wrong these days. Obviously my apologies to anyone who was offended, even though I didn't commit the offence.

Dissconnect the lead from the plus terminal of the passenger side battery and tape it up,this can be used if you need a jump start.Never jump start from a leisure battery.Use the pass. battery, you can change it for a leisure battery when it dies.I am assuming you are going to have a fridge.Go to scrappy and buy 2 30/40 amp. relays,2 switches with lights if you want and a small fuse box.You will also need some cable.Fix the two relays and fuse box near the now called camper battery, run a cable from the engine battery + to relay and another from relay to camper bat. + now run a cable from ignition to relay, run last cable from relay to switch and another from switch to earth, you can also run some cables to the switch light now if you like. The switch will dissconnect the relay when you dont need the camper battery charging. Now run a cable from camper battery to fuse box,you can link from this to next fuse then next fuse etc.,all you have to do now is run the live wires from other side of fuse to camper telly, fresh water pump or whatever and earth at telly, pump etc.,use appropriate fuses. Now run cable from engine battery + to relay 2 and from relay 2 to fridge and earth fridge, now run cable from ignition to relay then last cable from relay to switch 2 then from switch 2 to earth, run wires for switch light now.The second switch can be used to isolate fridge when not being used. The cable from ignition should only be live with ingnition turned on.Both batteries sould be dissconnected until wiring completed.I have used this set up on different campers for close on 30 years with no problems. The only problem i have had is the plastic melting on £1 shop fuses,i replaced the fuses and the problem dissappeared.
