Last week i was told that my gear box problem was most probably due to the throttle position sensor. Bigdaddycain among others were helpful on this matter,but can BDC or anybody else elaborate on where exactly it can be found and what it looks like,also can anything be done by me or does it have to go to a specialist and if so can it be fixed or does it have to be replaced.Sorry about all the questions but i am sick as a parrot now
because the last 2 garages have seemed reluctant to have a look through not really knowing about bongos so i am pinning my hopes on the people in the know
Ps please tell me its not a very expensive job

Hi Kevo

I had problems with my TPS and replaced it with a new one. The gearbox has been spot on ever since. Trouble is it's £100 a pop so you're better off making sure that's your problem before you splash out.

It's the black circular thing with 466 printed on it. Yours may have a different number. Lift the drivers seat it you find it sat on top of the fuel pump

Thanks for that corblimey excellent post,do you think it is worth a complete novice like myself having a go. My van will not change gear until i have let it run for about 25 minutes does that sound like the tps to you.

That's not the problem I was having so I wouldn't like to say definiately it's the TPS.

My initial reaction would be to say no that's not your problem but don't rule it out until you've ruled it out if you know what I mean. Hook a multimeter up to the TPS as I have detailed in some of my previous posts (see links) and tell us what you see.

All bongos wait until the gearbox is warm before allowing the box to change into top gear (or it could be lock the torque converter, can't remember). Are you saying your won't change out of first gear for 25 mins?
Maybe you got a problem with a temp sensor on the gearbox. BTW I'm no gearbox expert.

Perhaps Dandy or someone can shed some more light on it

Just searched your posts and notice that you've posted several times regarding this issue starting back last Sept.

Just wanted to know if you've tried any of the things that have been suggested previously so we know what you've eliminated. That way we can help you narrow down the fault

corblimey - off topic but did you find out about the NE sensor? I think it's the crankshaft pickup....................

Hi Dandy

I think you're right, Alphabetter said the same thing in a previous thread

Don't know what NE stands for. What it does is to measure the RPM of the engine. A few people here have had problems with faulty rev counters caused by a defective NE sensor.

I suspect its a coil that gives a little pulse each time some marker on the crank shaft goes past.

There's a good picture from under the drivers seat on the cooling thread at the moment. Forth post from the bottom, page 4. You can clearly see the TPS. It's a black disk with 466 AT3 stamped on it.

Cheers again for input, i have changed atf which made no difference and i
would like to check and clean all conections to the gear box if only i knew
where they can be found.The guy in the gears place i took it to put it on his diagnostic thingy and it ccame up with fault codes 12 and 16 thats what put me onto the tps,it is a very frustrating problem and one which i would love to solve and start enjoying the bongo. I will have a look for a multimeter at the weekend and attempt to take a reading. All help is greatly appreciated.
Forgot to mention this before and it might have a bearing on the problem.
when i do set off without letting it warm up,if i floor the accelerator the hold light starts flashing and the gears work ok,am i daft for not saying this before now.
