Winter twin battery bongo, I need to remove one battery

Hi, this is one of the twin battery bongos and it is factory fitted.

I need to get rid of one so I can fit a leisure battery.

I'm looking for advice on how to alter wiring, has the removal been done before without problems, are the batterys just tied in parralel or is there more to it than that

I'd love to speak to someone who s done it before. Also what is the best charging rig available which wont destroy my rather skimpy wallet but does the job. and wont make my battery light on the dash glow.

I just know the truth is out there,

there is a supplyer of split charge relays on ebay for under £20 posted

This seams to be the method of choice and what I intend to do when I reach the leisure battery on my tuit list

Mine as the winter pack with the two batteries
and at one point I ran it with just one without
any problems I just insulated the connectors
on the near side battery and it started up just
as if both were still there.

dont expect that relay to last long.
i fitted one very similar, cant take the charge and burns out.
need to get a better higher rated relay,
either try willington or raw componants on ebay

thanks for help. cos i soo wanted somone to tellme what you have, can you imagine having to find what is run from which battery, nightmare.

Dreamwarrior, way ahead of you, just orderd a Willington itelligent 100amp relay, senses voltage. makes tea walks the dog and changes nappies. 25 sheets Many thanks for advice.

Yes every thing worked as normal I think the
two batteries are just run in parallel and I don't
think looking at the wiring that mine as been
messed with, passenger side battery was the one
I had disconnected.

As far as i know (which isn't much) take the battery leads from the second battery ,the one on the RIGHT as you stand in front of the bongo. and just make them safe and tuck them away out of harms way, replace with LB and use willintons split relay, then go onto corblimeys posts and find out how to run your blinds/radio/internal lights/ciggy sockets from your newly installed LB. without the worry of draining your main battery for starting.

can I not use the earth from the passenger side battery or do I need to run a new one.

if you are fitting a LB you need to put new earth on, very cheap from halfrauds ,there is a very handy earth bolt just at the side of the battery.

I'm doing something very similar, but initially I'll use the other battery as a leisure battery.
OK, I know about the difference in design and all that deep discharge stuff, but:-
a. I don't think I'll be discharging it drastically anyway,
b. If I keep it as a spare it will deteriorate in about the same time frame as the one on the bongo.
c. If I scrap it prematurely I'll be destroying the planet and not be able to sleep.

SO I'll use it till it dies (if it ever does) then get a proper leisure battery

Incidently I have used a standard battery in a caravan for two years with no problem. I found it abandoned around where I work, took it home, charged it up and used it in the caravan as a leisure battery. I was using it to power the lights, pump etc, and on one occassion it went for about three days on a site with a hookup, before the lights got dim and I realised I had not switched on the charger. It recovered and is still in use.

Stanredski this is the Willinton Intelligent Split Charging Wiring Loom that davebluedozzie was refering too. Took me ten minutes to install following Willintons written and illustrated instructions. Mine was not a winter setup but I used a second earth from green leisure battery to the body on the passenger side. works perfect first time and every time.
