how do i disguise my non removeable stereo?
hi all,
i just bought a new cd player for the bongo.i`m afraid i was paying more attention to whether the unit had an input for my ipod, than whether it has a removeable fascia, which i now find out that it hasn`t.rather than return it,or try and sell it on,i wonder whether anyone has any idea how i could hide it when i leave the car parked up?it`s not an expensive one,but i don`t want to encourage opportunist thieves, especially considering how hard it`d be to replace and window glass or other parts on the bongo.i was thinking of trying to fashion a black plastic front to clip on somehow.
thanks
jamie

On my previous cr that had a permenant facia on the radio,i bought
a blank from a car accessory shop, couple of quid. Just clips over the front and looks to all intent and purposes like an air vent.
Halfords probably sell em.

Make something in plywood - I always do
But seriously, I think a suitable plain blanking plate (maybe that covers the whole double DIN bay) might be best. I'm not sure those 'ventilation grilles' aren't a bit 'obvious'). You are right to take precuations though - next doors had his window smashed for what he told me was a totally crappy unit - what is the mentality of these guys?
Dumbest one I ever knew was the pondlife that broke into my Mums house years back. They smashed the front door glass and must have cut themselves badly doing it as they trailed a lot of blood through the house. Guess what they nicked.......
.....the TV remote control.
Huh?

Well that's just showing off mp3eople...
Hogggman - We only got our Bongo last week and it came with a double size (fits the whole two stereo slots) CD/Casette player - must be the original from Japan.
I had the same worry as you - I made a prototype cover out of a black paint roller tray just to see if it works. It covers everything over and won't fall out as the plastic is thin enough to push into the groove between the player and the dash. I used the curve in the pastic on the top and sides - some scissors and you're there.!
I am a cheapskate so this may not be for everyone !
Whatever you cover it with it's obvious that it's the place the player normally is - main thing is it can't be seen.

The only drawback with cunning covers is that it makes the opportunist "smash & grab" thief wonder what's under that cover!
Although, i must admit, i have a cheap plastic cover on my stereo too, more to put my mind at rest than anything else...
There are a few obstacles that the potential stereo thief must overcome in my case though... I have a non removeable face stereo in my bongo (motorized screen),but whenever the power supply is cut,the code has to be re-inserted,and there is no "re-coding" trick to the sony unit i have, they would be stealing a pile of scrap if taken.
The code can only be inserted using the remote which is individually mated to that particular stereo, the remote goes everywhere with me if i leave the vehicle.
Then there's the cat2 alarm... The bongo is blocked in by three other cars, and the bongo is slap bang in front of my kitchen window....
I'm possesive of my bongo, have a bat,and i'm not afraid to use it...
( the bongo that is...i'm scared of bats!)
