Fog light will not switch off - any ideas

Post by HA106420 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 4:14 pm

The fog light on my van will not switch off! It has the factory fitted switch and connected to that is an after market switch. Any ideas why the fog light remains on regardless of switch activity?!
Cheers

Must be wired in wrong I would guess, if are you switching the right switch  may be a short circuit somewhere? Does it just come on with the side/main lights?

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

missfixit70 - Yes the rear fog light only comes on when side/main lights are switched on.

Front near side main /sidehead light is also dim. A guessing that is not linked to the fog light problem and is simply due to a bad earth.

Yep, it does sound like a weak earth, i bet your brakelights flash dimly if the indicator is on,whilst pressing the brake... :?

I recently had a problem with the front fogs and side lights. Mine would not switch on. It turned out to be a faulty relay.

The fog light relay is under bonnet passenger side bolted onto the wing. There are three of them (1" cubes covered with rubber) and the fog is the front one. You can tell when you have found them, if you turn on the side lights and head lights you get an audible click as the electro magnet pulls the switch. It may be yours has failed in the on poisition.

Fixing the earth will probably fix your problem.Trying to earth through fog.
