hi,
on with the saga of the 2 grand 1998 v6 petrol.as many of you will know i was the mug, sorry, lucky chap who purchased the 2grand trade sale 2.6 petrol.it had been standing for 10 months and was VERY tappetty, and also smoked a bit.
anyway, this is what i`ve done so far:
bought it.
had it mot`d
had it converted to campervan.
registered it.
added 2 cans of wynn`s engine flush, ran until warm, then changed oil and filter.
added 1 bottle of wynn`s hydraulic lifter treatment.
marginally quiter.
ran it for a few days
added 1 bottle of wynn`s stop smoke treatment.
added another bottle of wynn`s hydraulic lifter treatment.
now the engine doesn`t smokle(though it does smell `smokey`in the cab now and then, but i think that`s a leaking rocker cover gasket dripping onto the engine)
and it is now quieter than it`s ever been while i`ve had it.i`ve only driven about 80 miles in two weeks.
my question is this:
will another engine flush, oil and filter change in a week or so bring any further improvents,or will it simply undo the improvements that i`ve had so for,by flushing all of these additives back out of the engine?
i`m grateful for everyone`s advice.i really love my bongo.i really hope i can get it running as well as possible.
jamie

Believe it or not Dave, there used to be a product called Gasket Goo but I haven't seen, or looked for it, for about 40 years. Same sort of thing as Hylomar except, IIRC, it was orange.

At the same time have a squint at the state of the cams - if there's no appreciable wear then the fault is probably the lifters which may improve.
