LOWERING SPRINGS

Hi,
I have been looking at the lowering springs on E.bay listed at the moment.

I am wondering if it would be possible to cut the existing springs down
they do not seem to have a closed coil on one end and look as if they could be cut.
Has anyone tried this out?? I would like to do it this way to maintain the original spring poundage.
Or do you know if the replacements available are the same as the origanal
parts. :P

Hi Mike,

Do a search in tis section and you will find a couple of threads that talk about this subject - I am currently reading them and wondering if it is worth the hassle or if I should just lift my garage roof a bit :shock:

Yes you can Mike but it will increase the pound per inch rate, dont worry your not alone at getting it wrong. As M,J and E said, it is worth doing a search. :wink:

I just wonder ??. how hard it would make the ride

Has enyone tried it ?? and if so what was the outcome

As it would not take a lot to cut them down with an angle grinder
Keeping it cool of course!!

To be honest Mike if it was me, I wouldn't bother taking them off. I would put blocks under the Bongo at the hight I wanted it at (all 4 corners) then heat each spring at the same place with a gas welding gun. It will then drop to where you want it. :wink:
Do it 1" first, and progess. Your lbs per inch will be altered a lot less that way.
And if it ends up not what you want, buy springs, so, nothing lost. :wink:

I realised the other day that if I lower mine, I'm going to be hitting my head constantly on the tailgate when it's open, how many times before you got used to it BDC? :roll: :wink:

The banging my head? Before it was lowered i just banged my head, now it whacks me in the chin instead!

It's much easier to slide in & out of the drivers seat now,i dont bother with the step, just slide my butt sideways onto the seat,then lift up the old tree trunk, and i'm in! :wink:

Downsides? A firm ride,the odd amount of bottoming out at the rear, (very seldom happens) Gotta be careful over speed bumps,barely any ground clearance....

Upsides? Looks good,handles better. :wink:
