Slight cough

Post by helen&tony » Mon Mar 17, 2008 4:47 pm

Hi
A couple of times of late, when starting, the engine gives a slight cough, and today it coughed very slightly on a run....Would this be a problem with the little filter in the fuel pump banjo?....the fuel filter shouldn't need doing, as I replaced it around 20-30 thousand Km ago, but haven't done the mini filter screen.
Cheers
Helen

It'd definitely be worth checking the little "banjo" filter for starters, they can be fiddly to extract, try using a 9mm drill bit (loose of course, not attached to the drill! )VERY CAREFULLY to extract the tiny filter...

I used a cotton bud to remove mine, gentle and safe.

When I took the Banjo off the pump on my Bongo I couldn't find a filter, there was a spring that I got out. Question, should the filter be above the spring or beneath it? I couldn't see a filter even using a torch. Cheers Tom

Beneath the spring - it's like a small gauze thimble at the bottom of the hole.

It's a tiny little thing, that's virually invisible if it still has a drop of diesel hanging from it, masking the gauze.... :?
