fastest bongo in the north west ?

I thought it was a bit iffy but checked at weekend against the sat nav reading for speed and sure enough my speedo is wrong - although i do quite like it !

reading of 70 is actually around 56mph and reading of 100 is 83mph

wouldthis be easy to rectify / calibrate and would it cost much ?

wheels are still standard 15" and speedo clock is mph (distance is km) and it has had the change from km to mph done

There have been loads of threads on this before, some have changed the speedo and others like me have left it alone, it helps with speed limits. I suppose it is all down to personal tastes.

I ahve never checked my speedo or whether my clock is clocking miles or km. I know it had the dial changed as it looks like miles but I keep forgetting to check what it is actually doing :) Must remember to try and check somehow.

I discoverd that my speedo was over-reading when i had 15" wheels fitted,the speedo became much more accurate with the 18"s i have on at the moment,it's as well to have a little leeway for speed traps though :shock:

I had my bongo flat out (just the once) and had 115 mph showing on the speedo,with 107 showing on my sat nav.

I applaud anybody with the nerve to take a bongo over 90,they must have some nerve...All the above statememnts are with test tracks in mind of course,i have never exceeded the speed limits of roads ever in my life.Not even once,nope, not me, i'm a good boy i am....

Have you tried rotating all the wheels? Mine used to pull to the right,i rotated all the wheels and not only did the bongo run straight and true,but the front wheel wobble at 65mph dissapeared too!

I'd advise having all the wheels re-balanced while the wheels are off... :wink:

Finally checked mine against SatNav and it seems to overread by 5mph. Face not bovvered. Before any context can be established we need to know how accurate ANY car speedo is and I wonder whether the results would show inconsistencies across the board. Anyone know any better than that?

The more I think about MPG the more meaningless I think it is. £pm is all that really matters as it determines what you can actually get up to. Arguments for fuel efficiency remain unaltered. 8)

That's spot on mike,manufacturers actually factor in a 5%-10% of "over -reading" by the speedometer.

Just like the ecu's aren't set up to be 100% efficient,for the odd owner that lapses with car servicing,it's the manufacturer's little safety "get-out" clause....

may be a stuppid question but "rotate the wheels" what doe sthat actually mean ?

as they are diff sizes front to back i cant switch them over and they are directional tyres so cant switch side to side ?

is it just take each one off and move round a notch on the bolts ?

i am prepared for stupid answers but i had to ask !

I was thinking of doing the same thing, (check the speedo against the Sat Nav) But i don't normally have the MPH on the readout bar on the Tom Tom.
I was in the works newish van yesterday & decided to do a control & set it up.. (had to use the Nav anyway) the Fiat was about 5mph faster than the Sat Nav readout!!
I haven't tried it in the Bongo yet, but i suspect the same.
At least it keeps me under the limit.. :D

Mine is 25mph=30, 35=40, Annoying. But at least i know what it really is.

It must be REALLY annoying if you are getting higher readings.

Ah!...Sorry CC, i'm so used to having the same sized tyres all round, that i forget that some remain with different sizes.

The wheel rotation priciple is primarily a method in which the tyre wear can be evenly distributed from tyre to tyre,prolonging the life (theoretically) of the complete set.... For example, after re-balancing,the front nearside wheel, can then be moved to the rear offside,and so on, with each wheel... so that all the wheels ultimately end up in a different corner....This sometimes works with unusual wheel wobbles also,where a discrepansy in a certain wheel may manifest itself as a wobble in one particular instance on a vehicle,if the offending wheel is moved elsewhere,the wobble may not be noticeable on the rear, as it may have been on the front....Or vice versa.
