Drivers side wing mirror....

Our DS wing mirror is playing up!

I pressed the button to open the mirrors this morning, and although the mirror came out it was making a clicking noise that didn't stop when the mirror was out - it was like it thought it still needed the motor running to push it out some more...

I've tried opening/closing a few times but the problem is still there

I just had to drive home with the mirrors folded closed not to burn the motor out!

(Lucilky it was a short drive!)

It's now opening, but only with a bit of help, but closes fine.

Any ideas on what's wrong, and how I can fix it?

Hubby has just gone away with work until Saturday!

Both mine failed like that and I discovered a plastic lug had broken in the gearbox. I made what I thought was a good repair and it worked, but not for long before it failed again. It's a fiddly job to do as well, not appropriate unless you are 'handy' (there's info on hre about it if needed and photos on photobucket at http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x259 ... 20Removal/.

Regarding replacement, the expensive option is to buy a replacement mirror (you could try a breakers yard, or buy new as likely to last longer if you can afford the £). The cheap option is to fix it so that it just stays out and doesn't fold.

I bought Waycar8s working mirrors to replace both of mine but haven't got around to it yet. The fact is, after the initial disappointment, I don't miss not being able to fold mine at all, especially when I consider they might only go again at some inconvenient time.

A couple of weeks ago, my drivers mirror stuck halfway out, clicking repeatedly. The motor's broken and will be fixed when there's time.

I had to fold both mirrors in by using the electric switch. Then I pushed both of them out manually, with a gentle extra push at the end until the mirrors clicked into place.

Once again good advice Mike, but I must admit I wasn`t quite sure what you where talking about ?

I'm sure it's because hubby drove him last night and he just likes me to drive him!

Mine did this as well, I took mine apart and repaired the broken lug, its a pain in the ar$e to do and I found you can buy a second hand one for about £50 so I would do this next time....

I know I'm being thick now (remember I am 'dizzy' after all) - what can you buy second hand? A complete mirror or internal fidgity bits?

I found 2 complete mirrors on Ebay one was £50 the other £55, I just emailed some guys breaking Bongos...

Guess i'll just have to drive on the motorway with my window open holdin' on to my drivers mirror for dear life, for a little while longer lol.

Thanks for locating that thread sajseven - ura* Reminds me how much energy I had for faffing about with the Bongo at that time. Anyway that and the pics tell any would be repairer about all they need to know. I never wrote it up as a factsheet (though someone else is welcome if they want to) in part because all that good work didnt really amount to a proper cure. Right now I feel life is too short to want to do any more investigation. Just hope Waynes old ones perform OK into the future once I've fitted them
