rear fans for heater / aircon
nothing comes out of the vents in th rear regardlessof what i do in the front to the controls. The rear controls have been covered over as part of the conversion (my plan is to find the controls and extend the wires to the otherside) so i waswondeing can these controls stop the vents working or is it something else ?
i have checked the fan under the bonnet and also the solder points on the thing in the middle (under black cover) as daveblueozzie suggested and all seems fine - the front controls and vents work fine on all 4 speeds
any ideas ?

The rear vents are supplied with a seperate fan & ac unit to the front, I'd imagine if the rear controls have been disconnected for the conversion, they aren't going to work. Do you have the manual controls at the front or the digital climate control?
The rear fan & ac is under the floor behind the drivers seat, I think the controls could be moved, it just depends on what has been done to them during conversion

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
i have the manual controls in the front. so if i look behind the drivers seat for the fan etc i maybe able to trace the wiring and find out whats been done ?
i assume if i can get to the control unit i could extend the wiring to the otherside of the van ? i just think its a waste not to be used or at least have the facility to use
so i think it bes to work on the assumption that its been disconnected
where is th fuse for the rear aircon/ heater unit ? surely couldnt be this simple ?

you will still need to get to them and move them if you want them to work, as i dont think you can operate the rear heater controls with the manual controls from the front, its only with the digital type climate controls

rear fan control
Hi
The rear fan/aircon (manual) has a system of flaps controlled by levers in the back. If you have a side conversion, then some of the lower exit vents will no longer be viable, but, ASSUMING that the fan is still in place, and the control levers are still there, it will just need switching on and the levers moved elsewhere, as they control both hot and cold air. You could, conceivably, get longer cables , and mount the unit on the end of, or inside your conversion. Early next week(hopefully) , I'm repairing my rear fan, so when I get the panels out, I'll look to see if this is possible.
Hope this is of help
Cheers
Helen

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

It depends which conversion you have. In the case of Wellhouse, they remove the rear heater & replace it with a fresh water tank:

It's a shame you don't have later digital control, because there are no mechanical cables, so it is possible to extend the wiring but splicing extra wiring in:

Here you can just make out the fan & ducting:

just a quick & possibly silly question.
Have you checked condition of, or whether the the rear fan isolator switch is turned on? the rocker switch under the dash, mines to the right of the steering cowel.
You will still need to access the rear control to see if it has any effect.
Oh, & turn the front heater on too.
But i guess you would have discovered that during post purchase button pushing!

It could just be something as simple as that with regards to just getting the system working!

Now i'm no expert on conversions.. (mines unconverted)
The only experience i have are the few conversions i checked out at a Bongo Bash last year. (some had been done by the owner). & a dude who lives local with pro accommodation in the back.
But if i remember rightly, one owner got round the rear heater control cover up problem by making an access panel at the back of the cupboard that housed his portaloo!!
I guess you checked to see if it can be got at through the back?

It's like a smaller replica of the one in the cab without an AC switch.. (well mine is).
It only works normally when the front fan is on with the rear fan switch on too..
Mine works fine, I'm doing a bit of tinkering tomorrow i will pull a few fuses.. i can't find the appropriate fuse on the PDF diagram i have. (it could be under the bonnet).
Unless some one else picks this up first & has another idea!
If yer not familiar with what you have behind the conversion I'll put a pic up.
I can't see the logic of disconnecting if the controls are in place, just means they can't be accessed to turn on.

The switch that isolates the rear heating control is situated here!ccrobins wrote:whats the rear switch for the fan - is that the twisting knob 0-4 that i can feel or is this something else i am missing ? (maybe something in the front ?
..well it is on mine!
