Propshafts...the good news

Post by Harry » Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:47 pm

My new custom built heavy duty rear propshaft complete with sexy little grease nipples arrived today..£250is inc VAT but a luverly solid piece of workmanship. Being fitted Tuesday.

Meanwhile I've been driving the van around on the front propshaft only. 2WD on front wheels.
Done over 1500km like this in about 12 days, sometimes fully loaded and up and down the Lake District hills.

The van runs a lot smoother and quieter with less road noise but is slower to pick up...sort of 0 - 60 in 20 seconds instead of 10 and I often get frontwheel spin on gravel..something I never got with 4WD.

I hope this gives a little reassurance to other 4WD owners that if a proshaft goes it is not the end of the world.

On Tuesday my garage is fitting the new rear propshaft and removing the front one...watch this space for further handling notes.

In the meantime I've got a 250mile round trip to the Tatton Park meet plus a bit of tootling round Cheshire.......Now where did I put my roadrescue documents?

Hi Harry
That's excellent news
Are you having the front one done to the same spec?...I shall read your saga with interest....I always think the shafts should have greasepoints
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.
