Towing a car

I have towed plenty of times using an A-frame on the bongo -towed plenty of subraus for my mate back from the dock, while he drove my auto bongos - the bongo handles this well, but as mentioned it is illegal without brakes.
The newer style A frames as used by AA etc have a braking mechanism that operated on a cable and pushes the brake via a peddle bar that is clamped and strapped into place. The set up looks very poor, but I suppose it satisfies the law, but I think most of the patrols try not to use it as its such a faff to set up.
Anyway, my mate now has a nice trailer I can use, so no more illegal towing

Motorhomes towing cars; am I missing something?

I've never understood the logic, surely a car towing a caravan makes much more sense.

I know there's a stigma attached to owning a caravan but is it really that bad?

Perhaps the reasoning behind this is that if the Bongo doesnt have an awning ,and you set up on site and then decide to drive off for whatever reason,its been known for people to return and find their pitch "snatched"
by another camper.
So, taking a towed car means they can set up and leave it,and use the towed car to do all the running around,leaving the Bongo in situ .

Thanks for all the replies. What I have found / learnt is a car less than 750 Kg can be towed unbraked but there is only1 / 2 known of (Atom being one). Above 750 Kg needs to be praked and you get into all the issues above.

As to why? For me so that we can have 2 cars in the same area but going different directions / doing different things. A nice to have but not easy to have.

I'll be towing a Seat Ibeza on an "A" frame behind my dad's motor home to the Isle of Wight this year. It's a great set up and far more comfortable than a Bongo with Awning etc for a week with the two youngsters.

You have to be careful however, running the same setup on the continent, as the French Police do not like A Frames at all. IN Fra nce my folks tow a transporter with a Smart Roadster on it, although this year they will use a quad on a trailer.
