Screaming Sheila!!

Post by Jaime&Kirk » Sat Mar 01, 2008 8:39 pm

So took delivery of new friendee last Thursday and have just returned from an over night expo to wales and have discovered a very annoying issue. We have, and everyone in the 5 mile vasinity, heard a screaming/screaching noise coming from the front nearside wheel area. It only occurs on two occasions, whenever you are gradually turning left and occasionally turning right. It doesnt occur when reversing or taking a sharp turn left. Oh, and the air con has started making a loud noise when you turn it on.

Any idea's what the noice could be?

Did you remember to go through immigration at the border?

And wear a daffoldil?

Today is Gwyl Dewi Sant - St. David's day.

If not, what you heard was the ancient Princes of Wales screaming from their graves!

Hi

Sounds like a CV joint, on the front, or singing. Dont know about the air con. :(

As you have been to Wales, make sure that the Bongo has not now sprung a leek.

Check that the brake is not sticking on, see if it's getting
hot after a short run if it is take off the wheel and push the
pads in and out and move the calipers about so it's all free.

The air con makes a clunk when switched on but is quirt
when working if yours is noisy when working it could be
the bearings in the compressor or it could just need a recharge,
if it still makes the noise when the engine is stopped but ignition
heater blower and air con are on it's likely to be the radiator
fans as they come on too.

Is it under a dealers guarantee? Whatever, it doesn't sound like anything too expensive with luck. Keep us posted. CV joints (if its a 4WD) seem a definite possibility, and they aren't v expensive

Have you picked up a stone that has got stuck between the brake pad and disc? That can make a squealing noise.

Double-check that you have the switches in the correct position for the electric blinds - they might not be faulty.

Not knowing about Bongos yet this may be off the mark but could it be something as simple as a loose fan belt that when turning and making the p/s pump work harder that the belt is slipping? Could be woth checking.
You know when you've been Bongo'd .

Dust Shield

Post by Jaime&Kirk » Tue Mar 04, 2008 9:51 am

So, Kirk took sheila back to the garage yesterday and they advised that the issue with the screaming was to do with the dust shield. Not quite sure what it does but hopefully this will have stopped the screaming. Will see what happens when he picks it up.

the dust shield will be a piece of metal that sits behind the disc and stops dust and muck landing on the brake disc...... (but are good at trapping small stones for a similar squeal!)

sounds like it had moved and was rubbing on the edge of the disc, if they have repositioned it... ahem... it should be fine now....
