Starting problems/starter motor?

Post by Fraser » Thu Feb 28, 2008 2:04 pm

Hi

The last few days I've been having problems starting the bongo. I turn the key, there is a click, then nothing. In the mornings it can take around a dozen attempts before the engine eventually starts (normally with no unusual noises). Once the engine is warmed up it usually starts first time, though not always.

My local mechanic has checked the battery and says it is fine and fairly new. He thinks it is the starter motor.

Before I fork out for one of those I thought I would ask your opinions?

Also - I see the club shop is out of stock of starter motors. Any ideas where I can get a compatible one?

Thanks

Bad earth on the starter? clean up & tighten the terminals, may work.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Thanks. Have spoken to the chap at Southampton Auto Electricals mentioned in other posts and on his advice ordered one of their £20 starter motor/soleniod repair kits. I will get my mechanic to fit the new contacts and plunger and also clean and tighten everything up. Hopefully that will do the trick and I wont need to replace the whole starter motor.
