I have just replaced the cylinder head with a new one, every thing has been put back correctly, but now although the engine turns over with the starter it's not firing at all. I was wondering if it's got anything to do with the Immobiliser, as when I insert the key there is a beeping tone until I actually try to start it. The Bongo has been standing with out the cylinder head since August. I don't know how to bleed air from the fuel system, although in the manual it tells you to do this but not how, and there is no pump on the filter as it states in the manual. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Regards Tom

I'm guessing this is a diesel Tom? Did the immobiliser do this before the head change? Is the glowplug light coming on when you first turn the ignition key? If not then check out the fuse/circuit for the fuel stop. If it is illuminating ok and as you don't have a button on top of the filter, you have to prime it by turning over the engine on starter for a few times. To check you have fuel to the injectors, gently crack open each in turn just a gnats to see if diesel comes out. If all ok to this point then suspect your timing belt could be out a cog.

Yes Ian, tom has an N reg diesel bongo.

You can bleed the air from the fuel lines in the same manner as ian suggests above too tom, if you open up each injector respectively, then crank the engine over for 30 seconds or so...repeat with each injector.

It may be an idea to have the old jumpleads at hand tom. :shock:

I've not seen you post on here for ages, i thought you'd left us? :(

Thanks for the quick responses, I've double checked the timing belt and that is correct. I cracked the fuel pipes a crack but no fuel. The glow plug light lights up. I can't remember if the key inserted made a beeping noise as it's quite a while since I started it last time. Is there a fuse for the fuel cut out switch solenoid do you know. I am at my wits end, as I really need the Bongo for 24th march when my son comes over from Oz with his family. Tom

The 'engine' fuse is the first on the left on the middle row. However, if this was duff you wouldn't be getting the glowplug light to come on. If you aren't getting fuel to the injectors then your problem lies with the fuel delivery. As BDC says, you can bleed air out of the fuel system by cranking a few times then cracking open the fuel line to each. If no joy then you need to trace back the fuel lines right back to the tank in order to find the blockage.

The immobiliser (in my experience) would usually not give you the chance to turn the engine over tom,it wouldn't even crank...

Have you tried a longer crank, with injector open till fuel appears?

Well I just gave it another go, after blowing down the feed pipes, and then priming them with fuel, it did start after a fashion but very erratic, and I spotted a leak around No. 2 injector, also I checked the glow plugs and one doesn't work, funnily enough the one that was in the pot that had the crack. So hopefully tomorrow when it's warmer I might get it right, it's bitter out there now, and my old bones are beginning to creak. Tom

(i was gonna suggest for you to try some "easy start" just to get the big old lump turning over, but i suspect i'd have got some stick for it from some on here :roll: )
