You need alternator belts and there is a air con belt too
you can get all 3 for about £16 + p&p from this place I have
used them and they are OK.

Just check that it's the belts & not the alternator bearing. If you use a length of hose as a stethoscope & point it around the alternator area you'll be able to pinpoint the noise. My bearings are on the way out & there's a definate "chirupping" noise - must do something about it instead of just waiting for the noise to develop!!

Interesting and valid point there rhod... My belt was chirping too, i checked the bearing, and all was honky dorey...Apparently the chirping noise (in my case at least) was the air whizzing through a crack in the belt.... which was for all intents and purposes, whistling slightly

Unfortunately the noise is definitely coming from the alternator, not the belts
However the leisure battery has also died, the roofrack is about to arrive (with invoice!) & I'm debating switching all the tyres to the same size to protect the VC - so am trying to convince myself that the noise really isn't getting any worse.......

I am absolutely convince that running with the same
size tyres is kinder on the VC I can drive ours as far
as I like and sill push it with one hand that tells me
at least that nothing is binding or winding up.
When I changed ours to the same size all round
it was quieter smoother and the mpg jumped 2/3 mpg,
the under steer as all but disappeared as well, the only
reservation I have is that I have a feeling that if pushed
it very hard "more than most sane people would" it
could over steer and maybe bite if you were not aware.
Having said that I would never go back to different
size wheels.

4wd ron? Just replace the full set of tyres with a size that matches each corner, i had 195/70/15's then 245/45/18's, then 225/45/18's.londonron wrote:

If you have 15" wheels ron, there are a few options, (see who's doing a deal on what size at the time) 195,70/15. 205/70/15. 215/65/15. just remember the load rating, 92's on the front, 96 on the rear, or to keep it more straightforward, i class it as 96 all round so you have a complete matching set, with the option of rotating the wheels if you so desire somewhere down the line.

Two main belts are pretty easy, just slacken back the alternator, can't remember whether it's 2 or 3 bolts, the aircon belt has a tensioner I think, but they should be covered in the factsheets in the member section.
Just remember not to tension up the belts too much, I think about 10 mm deflection on the longest run of the two alternator belts, not sure about the aircon.
