flip up circular thingy(not really techie I know - sorry)

Post by rvandepeer » Mon Feb 25, 2008 5:07 pm

Hello to you all.

I have recently joined the bongo club and am just about getting to grips with whats what and how it all works.

However, when I pop up the roof there is a circular flip up bit with a hole in the middle on what was the roof of the van but becomes the floor (my powers of description are failing me here). It looks like a vent or a duct housing but could be anyrthing for all I know. Any ideas?

It's not quite known what this is, although some men have found great use for it in urgent "W/C" emergencies!

Yes it is a vent. Its purpose is to let the air out of the roof top tent if you close it with the hatch closed.

Flip up thingy

Aah that makes sense, why have it flip up rather than just a hole?

Thanks lots.

This forum had a large part to play in my buying a bongo over a VW.

It's like a (almost) one way valve. Think of the roof as a giant bellows. The valve lifts up when the roof is going up to allow air in and prevent the roof trying to cause a vacuum :? The motors are working hard to lift the roof, so this makes it easier.

Coming down the motors have to work less hard because of gravity, so the small hole is sufficient.

Rest of the time it is virtually shut, preventing draughts down from the top (if open) blowing on lower bed sleepers.
