Remote Central Locking
Moderators: Doone, westonwarrior
OK, after 2 more door trim offs to reconnect my linkages, enough was enough.
I bought a piece of 5 mm brass tube £1.95, screwed a brass cup hook in the bottom (of the tube - ouch) and soldered a length of the old rod in the top after cutting it to approx length.
I put a plastic sleeve over the cup hook to take the slack out of the linkage to the solenoid and just used one connector at the very top just under the lock release knob and hey presto, a single non-fouling mechanism.
I have photos if anyone's interested, please ask.
Pete.

a bit unrelated but i once heared a bloke in a supermarket braggin to his mate about his remote engine start.
as i was walking out he was just in front and i got to witness him showing off to his mate, starting up his mk2 golf from afar which was left in gear, it jumped forward straight into a wall.
us auto boys wouldnt have that problem though

central locking
Hi every one i fitted a remote actuator in the drivers door yesterday took me the best part of 5 hours getting it right... I would have sooner done a head gasket !.. I mounted the actuator very low down in the door, and extended the push rod with a welding rod ( i joined them by cutting a piece of a 30 amp cable connector chock block type) pushed both rods through and nipped it up tight, works a treat ....best and most useful mod i have ever done to date. thanks Rich

got a remote start/remote central locking/automatic lifting windows and soon to be fully automatic door mirrors on our bongo.
takes a full day to fit the lot but its great. fully automatic, dont even have to set the alarm, just walk away and it locks it all up. when you walk back to it it unlocks the doors. also pages me up to a mile away if anyone trys to break in or hits it.
meek. i have remote start/timed start on my other manual van. i had to fabricate a contact switch on the gearbox so that it couldnt start unless it was in neutral. they also have a handbrake sensor on so they wont start remotely without the handbrake on.
its great fun in supermarket carparks when it just starts up automatically.
people gawping theres no driver in that van.

cheap enough but no remote start by the looks of it. also i like the idea of the 2 way paging. tells me when someone breaking in without the culprit knowing they have sent a signal to me. que getting out the baseball bat and sneak down to the bongo.
only joking on that last bit but could catch them unawares as i can set the alarm in just paging mode.
