Auto box hose

Post by manners » Sun Feb 17, 2008 6:01 pm

Ive got a leak on one of the hoses that goes into or out of the auto box sump. It seems to be from the clip not being tight enough or maybe a split in that area if i take it off to shorten the hose how much fluid am i likely to lose what do i put back and where do i put it ?

cheers manners

Do you have a brake pipe clamp or G clamp? If it's a pliable hose (sorry I haven't looked) then clamp it so that you have enough play to cut the hose and refit. You have to top up via the dipstick tube and get innovative here but I use a length of clear neoprene tube (as used for syphoning beer/wine etc) connected to a small funnel.

You shouldn't have to top up much if you manage to clamp the tube ok.

Hi ... Manners i have just replaced the two hoses in question... i bought a meter of silicone hose off ebay 10mm ID cut it to size, and 2 good jublee clips and sorted it no problem, mine was exactly the same, i managed to shorten it while the pipe arrived the tiny bit you cut off, drop the tape over it just to be sure ! as it might not be the same size as mine...ps it flexes spot on so no problem with the bends ..hope this helps Rich
forgot to say ...i picked a cold day and it only dribbled out when fitting but i also pushed a little kitchen roll to the end

Thanks for the replies, started it up this morning to defrost for five min and had a look before i set off and it was dripping quite quickly and a 16"x8" patch on the floor! Got to work and took the old clips off and put on two new ones, i had to go out to drop something off (about 10 miles) it now seemed to change into top sooner and longer and also moved from P to D easier checked it when i got back dry as a bone :D next I checked the ATF thinking it must be low but it was just over full ( followed fact sheet procedure ) it was slightly brown with bubbles in is that normal?
