hi,
i have the infamous £2000 v6 2.5 petrol bongo that was the subject of much discussion on here before i purchased it.it is being driven to doncaster on tuesday for campervan conversion.it`s parked at my mum`s so i`ve been down to check it over to make sure it gets there ok,all being well.it`s a nit tappety, but sounds better each time i run it.i ran the engine for half an hour today, revving it to 2500 rpm occasionally.i watched the temperature guage and after a while it started to creep up,then it got to the `11 o`clock`position that i`ve heard so much about on here, and stayed there.i could see, through the engine bay,at the front,a large fan at about 45 dgrees.i expected this to kick in after a while, especially at the vehicle was stationary.it didn`t,even when i revved the engine.is this normal?the coolant level stayed the same, apart from rising a little when the engine was running, and returning to normal later.it didn`t lose any coolant, with no drips or leaks.the top radiator hose got hot,and there was no other fan noise that i could hear.is this all normal, and does it sound like it`ll survive the 50 mile journey to doncaster without mishap?all of the hoses looked in good order, with no perishing or splitting visible.
thanks
jamie
main cooling fan on 2.5 v6 petrol

On our Diesel the fan at 45% is the scavenge fan this only
comes on in very hot weather if the engine day gets so
hot it starts to make the cab uncomfortable, the cooling/
radiator fans are vertical and bolted to the back of the
radiator, they only come on if the engine gets very hot
they have never come on on ours in 6000 miles, they
do come on if you switch on the air con but at low speed.
Hope this helps,
Ps One of the first signs of problems even if the temp gauge is still
showing normal is that the heater will start blowing cold
if it ever does check the water level.
