Duff fuel gauge

Filled the wagon up today and noticed that the needle didn't move back up the dial...it's sitting between E and a quarter, it didn't move on steep hills, under braking etc...
Any clues????

It's usually either the earth wire on the sender unit or the sender unit itself. My Bongo had this problem recently and it was the sender unit. I think there's a factsheet in the members area. Or if you do a 'search' in 'techie forum' for 'fuel AND gauge' you'll find lots of info on how to fix it.

cheers min! I've been underneath so may have pulled the earth, I'll check it and the fact sheet out...should have looked first..If theres a fact sheet does this mean it's a common fault??

Cheers this link really helped, I pushed front seats forward back seat up pulled up the carpet opposite sliding door hey presto access panel to fuel tank, removed that and removed connection and tested by shorting connection to gauge it went up to full unscrewed the tank cover removing all the pipes, lifted out the unit checked between terminal block and wire inside and nothing, so drilled out the terminal block, oh cut off the wire inside attached first or it spins round, attached a new earth wire to the screw that holds on the float and passed that and the other cable through the hole left by the terminal block as other bongonians have advised and attached them to a new terminal block, tested the connections and the resistance matched that on the link.

I had this. i ignored it for a while - just using the mileage to know when to top op. Then I decided my battery was getting a bit old, so I put a nice shiny new one in. Ever since then the fuel guage is working againg - may be worth considering if you're battery is not holding a great charge - May also be complete co-incidence!!

Or maybe just disconnecting the battery, then re-connecting it again would do the trick?

Finally got round to checking out the wiring/sender on my Bongo. Tested the gauge and wiring (OK) and was getting realistic values through the sender.
Thought I'd better try adding an extra earth wire anyway.
While I was adding the extra earth I noticed that the earth tab had got a crack all through it. Probably explains why it kept coming back to life whenever it had been raining hard. I suspect that I was deflecting the wiring enough to make a connection while testing.
Don't know if there's any differences with the 3-wire sender (got a low fuel light) from the 2-wire (apart from the obvious - it's got an extra wire) but it's worth checking before you order a new sender, or even start taking the sender out and drilling out the rivets.
