New Rear speakers - no cage behind panel!

I was going to have a go at fitting a rear speakers in the bongo (passenger side) prior to an imminent full side conversion (the converter will be fitting the driver's side speaker to a newly fitted cabinets). Having has a "feel" behind the panel, there does not appear to be any mounting bracket! - like the one shown in an earlier post by andyh :

"Nice fit!"

If I don't have this bracket,
1)are these cages easily available or
2) should I consider an alternative fixing method..? ie onto the panel.

I was going to buy these:

Blaupunkt THx 572 *THx572 - 5 x 7 inch 2-way

From an earlier post,BDC look to have done similar here but with larger units :

"Sound!" (no more bad puns - please!)

Should I mount the German devices straight onto the existing grilles (with holes hacked into them) or should I remove the plastic riveted Bongo grilles , fabricate some sort of replacement plate from material unspecified which would then have a cut-out made for the blaupunkt units.

Any opinions/comments/advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Bonog, the only reason i didn't use the mounting plates was because the magnet at the back of the speaker was way too big to offer enough clearance from the bracket to the panel.

I removed the brackets, and modified the plastic panels to accept the 7x10's instead.

It's horses for courses really, source a set of brackets, and fit the 5x7's into them if you want to keep a stealthy look to the inside of your bongo...Or bugger the stealthy approach,and just whack em in there any way you can....

I think I am going to have to just wack em in - because I don't have time for anything else! Need to get the panel off and have a proper look though.

sorry to jump in on the post but are there normally speakers fitted to the rear or just grills....

If the metal supports are not there and you do not want to cut the trims make up some panels with MDF to mount the speakers

As crazy suggested,sometimes there are just one speaker fitted in the rear,or two, or none at all...

There is more chance of a mazda bongo having a full set of speakers, than a ford freda for example... (my sisters freda had none, dbo's freda has none)

There is another mounting possibility,it won't be completely invisible, but not as immediately noticeable as my set-up.

You could (with the extra room gained with no brackets) mount the speaker on the inside of the grille,without cutting the panel in any way,use some of the holes of the mazda speaker grille as the holes for the mounting screws,all you'd need to do is to fit the folded holed speaker clips at the rear of the speaker,(these are the ultimate anchor point for the speaker) Then, if you can be bothered, dab a bit of grey paint on the visible screw heads to help keep it a neater installation.

You will have to ditch the new speaker covers if you decided to fit them this way though,but it wouldn't matter really,as the original covers will protect the new speakers anyway....

Just go slow and careful with the rear panel removal,and please be aware that you need to remove the rear seat, and the seat belt.

when i did mine recently i found that (doing it the bdc way) the passenger side one fitted fine once i cut the old grill out and a bit of the panel, but when it came to the drivers side the magnet was fouling the metalwork behind so i will have to make some mdf baffles to pull it away from the panel. check the depth of the magnets on the new speakers and see what you can get away with
