V6 Tappets

Post by carvitara » Sat Feb 02, 2008 8:14 am

Hi,Thinking of a buying a 1998 V6.But the seller has told me that it has noisy tappets. Can any one tell me if they are hydraulic or adjustable.I am not mechanically minded but was asked this by a mechanic.Which ever they are is it a major and expensive problem, and does anyone know in the Manchester area who could do the job.Cheers Mark

I am afraid I can't help on this but as someone who is about to take the V6 plunge, I notice that most of the engine related posts refer to the diesel version as they are by far the most common.
More petrol engined Bongos are coming on the market though and there will consequently be a better coverage of that engine.
It may be worth checking if the V6 unit is used in any other vehicle and following that vehicle up. It is well known that the Ford Ranger uses the same diesel power unit, albeit with a different Horse Power output.
I will start another thread to see what comes out.

There is only one other vehicle with the same engine, and that is the very rare Mazda 929 2.5.
