Not needed - side repeaters are not a legal requirement.

As I understand it you need to be able to see if a vehicle is indicating if you are stood towards the back and a bit to one side. You may find your indicator lens has a "lump" sticking out and this means it can be seen.
I would be a very strict MOT tester who picks this one up.

My vans got the lumpy bits on the indicators and no side repeaters and has passed three MOT`s so its nothing to worry about really. Some vans have them on to get them through the MOT / SVA test but it seems to be down to the dealers /garages at the preparation stage if they are fitted or not. :)

Mine has them fitted, but they are a retro -fit,they don't leave japan with them fitted. It is also perfectly legal to fit them if you so desire.

I suspect certain dealers didn't pick up on the lump that sticks out on the original indicators,so some dealers may have had them fitted just in case.

I've got 'em and I love 'em - they must help with safety too. A worthwhile modification 8)

Upon removal of mine, (replaced orange for smoked) i noticed that the hole cut for the side repeaters had been left untreated. I had to whizz round the flange with a file, then used touch-up paint on the bare lip. It seems to have held the rust at bay when i'd last checked.

In theory I think the rule is something like you have to see the indicators with your shoulder up against the rear body of the car - as someone else said a while back - "find an MOT tester with broad shoulders".

My opinion is that the Bongo should technically pass because of the "sticky out" bits mentioned before, but in practice a lot of testers don't bother to apply the rule - they just assume that if there are no repeaters then it's a fail. Similarly a lot of importers will just fit repeaters as a matter of course when the car gets to the UK.

They are required for an SVA test - not the MOT test.

Most are a "twist in/out" type. Some are more stubborn than others...

Have you got a close-up pic mate? If they need to be drilled out, it may be possible to find a suitable lamp that can be used, or at least cover the (treated) holes left in the wing?
