Annoying Design Fault?

So, I am driving along on a very wet motorway and when I stop for a roundabout, the window quickly mists up.

I am pretty sure that this is due to steam from wet hot parts (radiator) of the van rising up and forward and directly into the heater intake just under the bonnet and being blown directly onto the windscreen. It does not happen on windy days, or when the vehicle is moving forward.

Anyone else suffer this?

It would never happen on any of my other cars as the blower intake has always been just at the bottom of the windscreen behind the bonnet.

Ours does not do this.

But then I often use aircon (on warm) in cold weather when it is very wet, because of the water dripping off shoes and clothes etc., can cause any car to steam up. I always use aircon first thing in the morning to demist when it is very cold outside.

Also have you checked your heater air inlet drain is not blocked and you are drawing air in over stagnant water lying in there. (there is a current thread about musty smells from heater vents on the forum)

Hi Trev.

If you mean the drain just under the bonnet lip closest to windscreen, then this is clear.

If there is another drain, then no. Where is it?

I tried this with the aircon on (usually drive with it off) and the symptoms were greatly reduced.

The bongo windscreen is rather prone to misting quickly,the aircon makes a huge difference! The reason the screen doesn't mist up as much on a windy day,is that rising water vapour simply doesn't rise and form as condensation on the screen,its getting blown around before it reaches there.

I don't know if you're a smoker, but niccotine builds up on the glass, almost un-noticeably, and it can hold condensation. A good glass cleaner with a niccotine remover helps. Many glass cleaners don't remove niccotine film, and if your car hasn't had a good window clean, this helps a bit. I had an Audi, once, that was so bad that the main dealer thought the heater matrix had a pinhole.....and I didn't smoke that much in the car.....a quick clean...no further probs.

No way.

Definatley an ex-smokers vehicle by the smell of it, so will give the windscreen a damn good cleaning tonight.

By far the best automotive glass polish i have used is the autoglym polish... I even use it on the windows in the house!

Mine had this problem once, when I'd set the 'fresh air' control to 'recirculate' by mistake.
