HELP.... help.... sos...Zig Unit help please

Post by Bonsi007 » Sat Jan 19, 2008 10:22 am

Hello, I had put this on the kENT SECTION, BUT HAVE BEEN ADVISED i MAY HAVE MORE LUCK HERE!!!!

I have just bought a rear fridge unit with a zig unit as part of the package, I thought this would be easy to fit in, thinking I just had to connect it to the leisure batterys + & - terminals, but there is a yellow & green earth wire that needs to live some where??? :? :? There is also 3 wires that come from the plug sockets that should go into the zig unit, again, I think I know where the red and black wires go (+&-) but it's the earth wire again????? I think I am just being a bit thick, but I don't want to blow my self up or my beloved bongo or anything else!! is there someone out there that can expain how to do this via the email?? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT>>>> CHEERS.... :?

I've never actually seen a Zig unit, but I would imagine that you have a positive (+) wire and a negative (-) wire which go to the battery for charging purposes, and three wires which are the mains input. The earth wire of the Zig unit would then go to the earth connection of the mains input socket on the van, presuming you have one fitted.

I hope this helps.

You might do better if you changed the title to "Help wanted ZIG wiring".

You can click on edit and change it.

Sounds like you are broken down and need urgent assistance to get you back on the road :?:

Sorry cant help with ZIG wiring though

Thanks for your help thus far, looks like I should have given the title a bit more thought, but we live and learn!! thanks for changing it for me to say ZIG unit, still none the wiser on that front; we went down to John Cross Caravan shop in Robertsbridge today to see if they could help, but the sales guy looked at as blankly and said BONGO..... NEVER HEARD OF ONE!! and folded his arms!! I should have pointed him in the direction of the Fury web site!!

I dont see why a Bongo should make any difference the wiring should be standard.
I have not got one so can't help but did it not come with instructions?

After extensive searching I have found a manual with diagrams for a zig cf8 unit
it seams to be a large page so takes a while to download
Hope its usefull to you, it may as well be in Greek for me

If nothing else you can print it for your electrician

Just had a look at a pic on line of a CF9, and it looks similar to a CF8 in that it does not appear to do anything extra or include a mains unit.
The CF8 has a 3 core mains lead comming out of it which will go to your external 240v hook up socket via a consumer unit with RCD. The green/ yellow is the earth wire which should be attached to the vehicle body/chassis.
The choc block connectors are obviously all for the 12v side of things, and all the earths are usually common and indeed to the 240v earth( they are on a cf8 anyway).
If terminal 1 is -ive then it is likely that all odds will be -ive.
The following order of +ive terminals are for the CF8 and may be similar.
2. Starter battery
4. Leisure battery
6. Pump
8. Extractor?
10. Lights
12. Spare terminal

Basically 6, 8 and 10 are protected by the fuses accessible on the front panel.

If you connect you leisure battery up like they suggest, then putting the switch to 'touring' will effectively connect the batteries via the zig to allow charging of both from the alternator - unfortunately it will also allow discharging of both if you forget to switch back to 'on site' when you park.
Best to leave in 'on site' position and fit a relay.
