Reverse gear on the auto box is "selected" by a combination of clutch packs. One of them is also used for top (4th) gear so it could be the other one which is faulty.
It could also be dirt/contamination in the valve block not allowing the reverse valve to operate.

How thin on the ground are autobox specialists in Bulgaria?

I'd have thought that any specialist could re-build any autobox?

I'd be scared of messing with mine...

Does it look like anything on HERE?

Sounds like it could be a clutch plate of diaphragm spring broken in the reverse clutch

Can you post a photo of the bits you've found?

Jatco are a subsidiary of Nissan - who build the 'box.
As far as I know it's the same 'box as found in FX4 black taxis which used the Nissan 2.7 engine with auto box

Hi Bongoinbulgaria
There cannot be only 3 autobox specialists in Bulgaria....I think you've been given the bird by a dealer who doesn't want to help much....drive in any big town in Bulgaria, and you'll see brand new Chrysler, Chevy, Jeeps, Rangerovers, Discoverys, Freelanders, Nissans Toyotas, and goodness knows what else, very many with auto transmission....try getting someone to 'phone round and find a dealer who will fix the box....it doesn't have to be Mazda....there are some really modern workshops...give them some diagrams, available through this website, order the parts, and one thing I've found here...they don't turn down CASH....if you can't find a dealer in Bourgas who will help, try Varna....it's a BIG city, i'm told...I've not been, myself.
Good luck
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Apparently (I think I read somewhere) it is actually a Nissan designed/made auto box in the Bongo so it could be worth trying a Nissan dealer.

no car dealer her can ofer repairs on any auto box be it mazda nissan as the box is the same on the 300zx and terano altho you need to remove the part for 4 weel drive if using this one

my btc bill will reflect this as i have ohoned most delerships in both varna burgas and sofia to find that all repairs on auto boxes are shipped out for repair.

i can turn my hand to anything and belive with the right advise i can rebuild but am just looking for advise on where to start. have built 2 kit cars in my time and worked in the uk repairing laptops and other devices. so am sure with the right advise this will be no big problem

I think people are trying to give the right advice BB - but it's kinda difficult unless you give some more detail as to what's broken! A photo would of the broken bits would help.
