Where is the chassis number?

Post by Jamie » Tue Sep 11, 2007 9:04 pm

This probably sounds a bit daft, but we can't find the chassis number for our Bongo Friendee. I went for the NCT the other day, and the mechanic couldn't find it. We have it on out documentation, but the mechanic wants to see the number in the flesh, as it were, on the chassis. We can't pass the NCT until the chassis number can be found. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi jamie you should find the chassis number on the top slam panel when bonnet open, it will be on the drivers side, it will be stamped into the vehicle :)

Hi Jamie welcome to the forum  As my esteemed colleague carl suggests, that is indeed where the vin number can be found...clear out the hole in the gulley whilst there (in the middle) if you'd like the heater to keep on working

Happy bongoing! \:D/

Mine may be as described by others, I've not checked - but it's definitely on a plate riveted to the inside of the passenger door recess.

Ah fast answers- excellent. I have just had my letter from DVLA saying they can't send out the reg docs because they need the chassis number from me.

I thought the VIN was what used to be known as the chassis number?

I couldn't find the number under the bonnet on the driver side but I didn't know where I was looking and it was raining very heavily causing me to give up before I should have done.

I did however find it on a metal plate inside the passenger side door post and also there was a transportation sticker there too with lots of details including the number.

phew

Maybe I can actually get a log book now.

no fraid not. The log book comes to the owner and it hadn't been ordered when I bought it. Mike registered it as here etc. and it has been MOTd and is insured and good to go but it takes a while for the DVLA to send on the log book and Mike mustn't have put the vin number on the forms. I saw the form but I never noticed. i got a reminder in December but it took me a while:)

yes he did have a pile of them when I bought - including the original for mine but we did the tearing off and amendment etc. and sent it off there and then so the new owner (me) then gets all the correspondence as he no longer has a say over it at that point. The problem was that the original had obviously been done without a VIN number - lord knows how - probably because it was a new import and it was done for resale. not sure why but it happenned - I saw the docs so I know they exist and are good but the DVLA insist they dont have the number. They contacted me though so I know they have the old reg doc.

By all this do you mean the original Japanese service record logbook? I got mine from Jal with my Bongo had a quick look at it then stored it away as most of it is incomprehensible. The BITMA certificate came a bit later.

Do you still use this book or is it replaced by one in English. I have just had a service and MOT through Mike at Wheelquick and all the proof I have is just the bill and receipt. Do I have to get this book back to Mike to get it stamped?
