Phew!

Read that through a couple of times now but need a bit of help to diagnose the problem.

I've never tried to read such a long sentance all in one go, got a bit lost on the way.

I guess you have a Bongo engine fitted in another Mazda which fires up but belts out black smoke. There's also a gearbox/drive problem.

Do you still have the original exhaust fitted?

In which case it could be the EGR valve sticking open. . . .

Well that was quite a read nana - some punctuation would've saved by bleary ol' eyes 8)

Does it have a box (number 13540) on the exhaust downpipe like the one in the pics?

If so, make sure the switch on the driver's side of the steering colunm is off - if it is off, then best to check the flap in the box isn't seized.

Also check the air filter isn't choked.

I hope you have gone through e-Bay security to try to get your book purchase resolved as well as asking here.

Also if you used a credit card contact your card company.

Its bad enough having a dodgy Bongo without being ripped off at eBay as well!!! I may be stating the obvious but in your position the obvious is easy to overlook.

Good luck, nana

Black smoke is usually fuel or air related so, as dandywarhol suggested, check the air filter. Also, the Bongo engine is more powerful than the Ranger engine so it may be that your MPV hasn't got a large enough air filter, thus restricting air flow (I didn't know that the Bongo engine fitted anything other than the Bongo or Ford Ranger so am just guessing :? )

I don't want to be unkind, but can Bongo owners really be expected to give time to owners of other vehicles (and non-members?) who have plonked a Ford Ranger engine in their car and happens to have come from a Bongo.

It sounds like you've had some bad luck nana, and I'm very sorry to hear that, but its not clear to me whether it is linked to using an engine in a car other than that for which it is intended. What is an Elfini?

I know - I was inviting our visitor to introduce themselves and their car before commencing on their supplications.

Cant (easily) get a pic from that link - me being thick again no doubt

nana,
I know I can't help with your problems but I can't see why you can't ask a question. If people don't want to answer they don't have to.
