Coolant leak - worst feared - please help(with pics!!)

Post by ADAMD » Thu Jan 03, 2008 10:08 pm

Having had an overheating episode caused by pin-hole in
large metal pipe, I now have a coolant leak appearing from behind the
lower large pulley at the front of the engine.

It is impossible to get a good look at where it might be coming from,
can anyone offer any advise?
I am fearing the worst
Many Thanks

Adam

Thanks chaps, I had a look at what I thought was the water pump area, but could see very little.
Does anyone have a good picture showing the waterpump position in relation to that large pulley.

Thanks again.

Not very good at describing just where but I think its up a bit and to the right.

My pump bearings went as a result of the belts being ovetightened when replaced on a service. Started with a little leak like yours then failed catastrphically in southern France. French garage replaced pump...filled up the water and bled the system and away we wnt all the way home.

cheers

I am very grateful for everyone's assistance.
Once I locate the pump, where should I look for a leak?
The trickle is very definitely on the right of the center of that large pulley, the water pump appears to be on the left hand side - could it track across??

Thanks
again.

The leak appears to come from the centre hub of the pump.

With the engine running it sort of sprays a fine dribble around the area then this pools wherever is handy.

Sorry about your predicament!. If its any consolation to you mines in the garage at the moment with head gasket problems.

I too have had the waterpump done. Also a rad and thermostat. Im hoping that after this is done, that will be it. PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Hope you get yours sorted with ease, and If it is a fresh import get all that coolant out, flush it through, and most important get it bled PROPERLY.

Say it to everyone, but trust me it is very worth it. And even to say treat yourself to a new radiator.

Best of luck
Darren.
