Gearbox installation - North West England

Post by bongomonkey » Mon Dec 31, 2007 1:53 am

Have recently bought a 1995 Bongo via ebay with a known problem that the gearbox was making a grinding noise, slipping and was not going into top gear (so doing 50 mph at 3000 revs - vroom!).

Managed to buy (nervously) a second hand gearbox from the West Midlands (have 2WD version) for £250 delivered and had it installed by Preston Auto Tranmissions who not only did a job just before Christmas, but did a good one too - total bill there approx £300.

Bongo now drives like a dream - no problems whatsoever.

Had problems finding someone in the North East, but as my wife's family live in Preston, this was an alternative.

The guy there (Graham) seems more than knowledgeable about Bongos and has obviously had experience.

Buying the bongo like this was perhaps a risk, but now I have a beautiful 2WD silver bongo with 48K miles and everyhing in order for £2200.

I have a young 2 year old son. Adventures await us .....

That's great bongomonkey... Perhaps Ian could include this guy's details in the bongo friendly garage/services section?

It's refreshing to hear that the industry is catching on to bongo's (at last)
