coolant level when cold...Very cold

Noticed the last couple of days the coolant level alarm was taking longer to switch itself off. Could this be due to the low temperatures we have been getting lately? The level is down just a small fraction compared to usual. (level bang on the top probe) The alarm acts as usual for the rest of the day when starting.

No smell of coolant. but this may be due to the fine bottle of Grouse, which got smashed in the back.

If we get pulled over by the police, It's a dead cert we will be Breathalised

Yes! it will take a little longer to test itself but There should be so little differance I'm suprised you noticed it. The hotter the coolant the better conductor it is. I would add just a bit more coolant or you may get false alarms if you wizz round corners or go up steep hills whilst still warming up.

Cheers for that. The alarm does give me "peace of mind"

I have a tendancy to notice small differences, when it comes to noise or the feel when it's to do with cars, but never seem to notice when to wife gets her hair done etc.

The coolant will shrink when very cold, which is why they say to fill up with fuel in the morning - you get a fraction more
