Wheels & tyres

Post by pistonbroke » Thu Dec 13, 2007 7:58 pm

I am thinking of putting some alloys on Freda, presently shod with 215 x 65 x 15's on standard steel wheels all round. What would the tyre size be with 16" or 17" wheels (not the width, but the '65' part of the description. I gather that this refers to the height of the wall of the tyre, from the rim bead to the tread. Please correct me if any of this is wrong.

Approx 60 for 16" and 55 for 17" - see http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
You'll need to modify the width if you want to get an exact match.

Intresting, I have been looking at 16, 17, or 18" wheels and as Torchwood did use it to up the gearing. 70 on 16", 65 on 17" 60 on 18" depending on the width 215, 225 ect

Personally I like to use a 17" wheel with 215/55 tyres. They are slightly larger than normal but fill the arches a bit better and due to being a standard size on a freelander are available in XL (98) so more than up to the job of a bongo.
