STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG HOUSING REMOVAL TO GET AT HORN SWITCH

Post by Border Bongo » Wed Dec 12, 2007 3:24 pm

Horn does not work. Horn itself OK, but problem likely with steering wheel switch. My mechanic is nervous about removing steering wheel air bag housing for fear it might go off by mistake. He had a bad experience like that before on another type of car. Should he be worried, or is it just a matter of removing those 4 bolts and carefully lifting it out to see what's wrong? :)

NEVER mess with airbags unless you know what you are doing, they can be very dangerous. If your mechanic isn't happy, take it to another garage. Remember they have to have steel containers to store the airbag in whilst it's off the car.

Well, I have the Mazda handbook for this part of the vehicle and it shows how to keep the airbag module in a stack of tyres!

I removed my steering wheel 2 weeks ago now. Just disconnect the battery and leave it for a good half hour. You can then take the air bag off the wheel by removing the 4 bolts.

However you should always be very carful with the airbags as the can be very dangerous!! :x
