Ebay Cam belt kit

I am i the market for a cam belt 'kit' and I note that there are some available on Ebay for a lot less than Bongo towers are doing them. What pitfalls can be expected?

Not sure who are talking about so hope I dont offend any guenuine sellers, but as long as they are a proper business you should be OK. The pitfalls of buying solely on price and off ebay is that the person selling a load of stuff at minimal profit (paying no tax or overheads) may not be there in a year or two time, but neither will be the guenuine seller of bongo parts who we want to support our imported vehicles.
Personally for the main consumables I buy from BongoBits - there are cheaper available, but you wont get their level of service and expertise. Also some of the pattern parts available are rubbish so stick with a decent supplier and you wont go wrong.

Tend to Agree with madmile on this have bought from both ebay and bongobits/mazdabongo.com, on trim get from ebay usually bongo owner but as mine just failed MOT on centre and back box looked at ebay and seen a few members bought one from a seller for £150 that offers 1 year guarentee, checked mazdabongo.com £200 with 2 year guarentee plus the knowledge that they will be around in two years hopefully

so thats what i ordered should arrive tomorrow filters and brake pad had off ebay and no problems there as they are usually a dealer, cam belt would go for genuine or reputable dealer that offers guarentee just incase it does go rather pay £100 for belt tension bearing and spring than £50 and need new engine in 6 months

hi Leah&john i had a cambelt kit off ebay with fuel and oil filter i think it cost about £37 + p&p if thats the one your off about good quality but oil filter threads were no good but i telephoned them and they sent me a replacement the same day

exellent service from them
my mechanic said good quality as well

I agree with madmile as well.

I buy off ebay regularly (FB over 140)

but when it came to something as crucial as the timing belt, the extra £40 or so from Bongo towers (You do only change it every 100,000kms after all) was IMHO worth it, in the knowledge that they only sell the decent stuff. (Otherwise Ian would never show his face at the meets)
