BONGO ROOF RACK

Alant54 or the bongo police as we know him ,has made a roof rack for the bongo freetop.
He asked me to go to his house on Sunday to have a look at what he had made, very impressive and very light but strong.
He said how do you transport the marquee to the meets, i said inside the bongo i just squeeze it all in, not any more he said and gave me a roof rack so i can transport the marquee, and as he said to test it out and show other bongoers the product he has made.
If anyone is interested in a roof rack for a bongo to put a roof box or other items on for holidays or just to carry stuff about , then contact alant54 .

How much weight would it take. I would need one that could take at least my Khyam motordome classic, two folding chairs and a cravanstore awning when I get one if not fitted to the Bongo.

OK folks....seing as DBO has let the cat out of the bag I will auction a roofrack for the Gillian Humphries childrens entertainment fund....the roofrack will be on sale soon at £117.50 for non club members so please don't bid over that price........I am curious to know what the interest in this will be.....but remember that it is going to a really good cause.....see back from Buxton for the rest of the news.......Alan & Dee

Just What I need

I have a top box that I use on my car but the spacing using the conventional roof bar fittings is too far apart.

I should imagine that it will easily carry what you propose if evenly spread across the rack.....I reckon it would take about 50 kgs easily...Alan

Hi Alan
Sorry I didn't make myself clear, what I meant was If I bought the conventional roof bars they are too far apart to fit the top box. But with one of your roof racks (I assume you use the existing threaded holes in the roof to fit it) I could bolt the top box to the roof rack. Having the cross members spaced to the exact size for the top box would be an added bonus

Provided you had the tooling to do it, it looks as though the design chould be modified so the cross bars were bolted through slots in the longitudinal runners. Loosening the bolts would allow bars to be slid for and aft a certain amount to fit topboxes, and then tightning the crossbar bolts would fix the bars in position. Just a thought

Having had a good look at dbo's roofrack, i must admit i'd like one of these neat items (to fit a roofbox). Seeing as its for a good cause,i'll start with a £25 bid for a rack please Alan.

The roofrack is so light, i reckon a rack with an empty roofbox fitted to the freetop could easily be raised by the freetops motors without putting undue strain on the mechanicals, this would be a BIG bonus for me

Mike ......what a great idea....I will explore that possibility without compromising the strength of the rack.

Bigdaddy.....If you get this rack for £25 you will have a bargain for an exclusive piece of kit that is all hand made.....no two are the same ...as for the weight..if you remember the Silverdale meet my roof lifted no problem with my roofbox on it.....this auction will close at midday next wednesday 19th Dec.....good luck with your bid Ste..as you say it IS for a very good cause..............Alan
